The changing nature of Cybercrime
In the past, cybercrime has been committed by individuals or small groups of
individuals. However, we are now observing an emerging trend with criminally
minded technology professionals and traditional organized crime syndicates
working together and pooling their expertise and resources.
This new approach has proven to be very effective for the criminals involved.
The cost of cybercrime worldwide was estimated to be approximately 8 billion US
dollars in 2007 and 2008. As it relates to corporate cyber espionage, cyber
criminals have stolen intellectual property from businesses worldwide worth up
to 1 trillion US dollars.
